99 Names of ALLAH

"Lord of the Heavens and of the earth…know you of any who is worthy of the same rl.ame as Him?'"' (Q19:65)

AR-RAHMAN (THE BENEFICENT)

Allah! There is no god but Him. He is the source of mercy and good for all creation, at all times, without any distinction between the righteous ad the perversed, the faithful and the rebel, the beloved and the hated. He pours upon all creation infinite bounties: " My Mercy extends to all things" (Q7:156).

In human experience, mercy is a fineness of feeling for the pain and distress of someone, Ar-Rahman is the will of the total good of AlIah. (iradat al-khayr). Like Allah, Ar-Rahman is a proper name of the Creator, and cannot be attributed to others. This name denotes the attribute of beneficene and mercy in the highest degree. Allah's compassion is more sublime and belongs to His nature:

"Say: ‘to whom belong all that is in the heavens and on earth?’ Say: ‘to Allah’. He has inscribed for Himself (the rule of) mercy…..” (Q6:12)

He has also created all creation with His mercy. Everything which has come to be since the beginning is blessed with mercy:

"Then which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?" (Q55:40).

Look at yourself and find the light of Allah's rahmah surrounding yon in countless numbers:

"If you would count up the favours of Allah, never would you be able to number them: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” (Q16:18).

Allah's Prophet (PBUH) said:

There are one hundred (parts of) Mercy of Allah and He has sent down out of these one part of mercy upon the jinn and human beings and the animals and insects and it is because of this (one part) that they love one another, show kindness to one another and even; the beast treats its young one with affection, and Allah has reserved ninety-nine parts of Mercy with which He would treat His servants on the Day of Resurrection. (Muslim).

Allah's mercy is so free that He takes offence lf you do not ask. Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said:

"'Allah will be angry with those who do not make requests of Him. '" (Tirmidhi).

Yet His Mercy is all pervading: After the Creation of the universe Allah inscribed over His throne:

"My mercy overcomes My wrath:" {Hadlfh Qudsi)

'Abd ar-Rahman is he in whom Allah expresses His mercy upon the universe. Every son and daughter of Adam takes their share of the mercy from the Merciful in accordance with their potential. The hard hearted 'Abd ar-Rahman is unworthy of the name.
