KHADEEJAH BINT KHUWAYLID

Her lineage: Her name was Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid bint Qasa. She was, considered the best of her folks in terms of wisdom, fortune and, lineage. Her father was of high esteem in his tribe in Makkah. When she reached adolescence, she came to be known as Taahira due to her noble and sublime character.

Early Life & marriage: She was first married to Abu Hala bin Banash Tamimi. She later got married to the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) fifteen years before Prophethood. She had two boys and four girls, the boys- Qaasim and Abdullah died at very tender ages; while the girls - Zainab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum and Faatimah reached adulthood and accepted Islaam.

Only Faatimah (RA) outlived the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) Her faith. Khadeejah (RA) was the first Muslim woman. She believed in the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) without being hesitant and supported him in every way with her wealth and her person. For that reason, she was given the glad tidings of Paradise.

Abu Hurayrah (RA) related that Jibril (AS) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Allaah's Messenger! This is Khadeejah coming to you with a dish having meat soup (or some food, or drink). When she reaches you, greet her on behalf of her Lord and on my behalf, and give her the glad tidings of having a palace of jewels in Paradise wherein there will be neither any noise nor any fatigue (trouble)." (Bukhari)

For her faithfulness, Abdullah bin Abbaas  (RA) related that Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) drew four lines and said: "Do you know what these are?" The people said: "Allaah and His Messenger know best." He (peace and blessing be upon him) said: "The best women of the women of paradise are Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, Faatimah bint Muhammad, Maryam bint Imran and Asiyah bint Muzahim the wife of Firawn." (As- Saheehah).

Her virtues: Khadeejah (RA) is rated among the best of women that ever lived. Those who attained perfection in their various endeavours while on earth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Among the women of the universe, Maryam, daughter of Imran, Khadeejah, daughter of Khuwaylid, Faatimah, daughter of Muhammad, and Asiyah, the wife of Firawn are enough for you." (Tirmidhi)

She is the best of this Muslim community. Alee (RA) related that: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) saying, "Maryam, the daughter of Imraan, was the best among the women (of the world of her " time) and Khadeejah is the best amongst the women. (Of this nation)." (Bukhari) The sublime virtues of Khadeejah (RA) were long remembered by the " Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) even years after her demise.

Aisha (RA) said: "Once Hala bint Khuwaylid ,Khadeejahs sister, asked the permission of the Prophet (peace and  blessing be upon him) to enter. On that, the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) remembered the way Khadeejah (RA) used to ask permission, and that upset him. He said, "O Allaah! Hala!" So I became jealous and said, "What makes you remember an old woman amongst the old women of Quraysh an old woman(with a toothless mouth) of red gums who died long ago, and in whose place Allaah has given you somebody better than her?" (Bukhari)

Aisha (RA) also said: "I did not feel jealous of any of the wives of the Prophet as much as I did of Khadeejah though I did not see her, but the Prophet used to mention her very often, and when ever he slaughtered a sheep, he would cut its parts and send them to the women friends of Khadeejah. When I sometimes said to him, "(You treat Khadeejah in such a way)as if there is no woman on earth except Khadeejah," he would say, "Khadeejat: was such-and-such, and from her I had children." (Bukhari)

Her death: She (RA) died three years before the hijrah. Abu Hisham (RA) narrated that Khadeejah (RA) died three years before the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) departed to Madeenah." (Bukhari). May Allaah be pleased with her.
