Water is vital to life, it is in virtually every process that occurs in plants and animals. Allaah tells us ill the Qur'an:

"And He it is Who sends the   Winds  as  heralds   of  glad tidings  going before  His Mercy and We send down purifying  water from  the sky; that with it We may give life to a dead land and slake the thirst of things  We have created: cattle and  men  in great numbers. " Q45: 48-49.

Ever heard the definition of water?

Water is a colourless, tasteless, and odourless liquid at room temperature. One of its   most important properties is its ability to -dissolve many other substances. Water as a solvent is essential to living organisms; because living things use aqueous solutions (mixtures containing mainly water) e.g., blood and digestive juices-as mediums for carrying out biological processes.

Where do we get it?

Water comes mainly from the sky i.e. rain, Snow and hail; and from the ground (oceans, seas, rivers, streams, wells, springs and any naturally occurring body of water). Our focus today is all well water and a particular well water for that matter: the well which contains water that is blessed.

Blessed   water:  Zam zam

Generally, well water is not favourable because underground water is heavy. This is because well water rarely escapes rot as underground water is not exposed to fresh air. The worst Type of water is that which runs through lead-rich stones and unused wells, especially if its soil is not good. Zam zam, also a well, on the other hand is the best, freshest, most beneficial, most beloved and most precious water there is. It was dug up by Angel Jibril. (Bukhari)

Scientific Research

The Zam zam well is like a small pond, about 18 by 14feet. The flow of water into it is through the bed of the well and is equal at every point thus keeping the water level steady. There is no sign of an internal connection with the Red sea, which is about 75kmfrom Makkah Laboratories have shown the difference in composition between the water of Zam zam and others. The quantity of calcium and magnesium salts were found to be slightly high in Zam zam than other wells.

This may explain why pilgrims who drink it feel so fresh on using the water; it also contains fluorides that have an effective germicidal action. It always maintains the    same salt composition and taste since time immemorial, and 110 one  has complained about it for impurities or health hazards.

This water has never been chemically treated or chlorinated, as is the case with water pumped into the cities. Biological growth and vegetation usually takes place in most wells which make the water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae causing taste and odour problems.   But in the case of Zam zam water. There was 110 sign of any biological growth!

Only Allah cures

The Prophet (peace and blessings Of Allaah be upon him) said to Abu Dharr, who remained at the ka'abah for forty days without food (or drink) living on Zam zam water: "It is a nutritious food and a cure from ailment" (Muslim).

Jabir ibn Abdullah related from the Prophet (peace and blessings of AlIaah be upon biro) that he said, "Zam zam water is for   whatever was intended behind drinking it." (ibn Majah)

Also from Jabir; the Rzsul (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said. "The water of Zam zam is for the purpose It is drank for and I drink it to relieve my thirst on the Day of Resurrection.

Many people have tried drinking Zamzam Water for the purpose of being cured from various illnesses, And by the will of Allaah; they were Cured from such illnesses. People have also taken it alone for long periods, e.g. fifteen days or more without complaining of hunger. Ibn ‘Abbas used to supplicate Allah, whenever he drank Zarnzam water:  "Allahumma inni  as'aluka 'ilman nofi'an wa rizqan  wasi'an wa shifa an min kuli da in (Allah! Grant me beneficial knowledge. Bountiful provision, And a healing from every disease)." But we should know that it is only Allaah alone that cures.
