AIIaah has told us that the Jews did not kill Eesa Ibn Maryam, even though they claimed to have done so, and the Christians believed them. The truth is that Eesa was not killed, but Allaah made someone else look like him. Eesa himself was taken up to heaven by Allaah. Allaah says:

"... But they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it appeared so to them the resemblance of Eesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed not (i.e. Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)): But Allaah raised him (Eesa (Jesus)) up (with his body and soul) unto Himself . And Allaah is Ever All powerful,AII Wise. (Quran4:157-158)

Allaah indicates in His Book that Eesa will descend at the end of time, and that his descent will be that the hour is close at hand:

"And he (Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary) shall be known sign for (the coming of) the Hour ... "(Q43:61)

The meaning of these verses is explained in more detail in the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that when the fitnah of the Dajjal becomes too intense, and the believers are under pressure at the time, Allaah will send down His slave and Messenger Eesa. He will come down at the white minaret in the east of Damascus. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Eesa ibn Maryam will descend at the white minaret in the east of Damascus" (Saheeh al-Jaami as-Sagheer).

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) described how he will look when he descends. He said:

"There is no Prophet between me and Eesa. When you will see him you will know him. He will be a man of average build, with a reddish, whitish complexion. He will come down wearing two garments dyed with saffron, with his head looking as if it is wet although it is not." (Abu Dawood)
