Ustadh: Assalaam alaykum warahmatullaah wabarakatuh.
Talib: Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakatuh.
Ustadh: Alhamdulillaah that you have understood al-Masheeah of Allaah. We shall now go to the fourth and final condition of al-qadar. This is .al-Khalq. Have you heard the word before?
Talib: I think so. It sounds like khalaq that we say when we recite Surahal-Falaq.
Ustadh: Correct. AI-Khalq means the creation. This fourth condition tells us that we should believe that Allaah is the sole Creator of everything. He says:
"Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Guardian over all things. (Q39:62)
He created everything, even death. The Quraan says:
"He Who created death and life that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might Oft-Forgiving." (Q67: 2)
Allaah created the skies, the mountains, the winds, the vapours, the growth of living, organisms, the droughts - all and more.
Talib: But sir, why do people claim that their actions and words are products of their own free will when they are really creations of Allaah?
Ustadh: The answer, my boy, is that peoples actions and sayings are the result of their ability and desire to do them. Since Allaah alone is the One who created us and gave us the ability and the will to distinguish, choose, and act; our actions are His creation. Simply put, He created the cause which generates the result, so He is the Creator of the result as well as the cause.
Talib: Does this affect our choice and will?
Ustadh: Not at all. For example, we know that fire burns.(Talib nods) The One who gave this power to the fire is Allaah, as fire on its own does not have the capability to burn. An instance is given to us in the Quraan:
"We said "0 fire! be you cool and (a means of safety for Ibraheem!" (Q21: 69)
Thus, the fire did not burn Ibraheem (AS) in this case. It is Allaah who gives fire the power to burn, just as He gives man the power to choose and act according to his decision. Now, do you have a full grasp of the sixth pillar of eemaan? ,
Talib: Naam, Insha Allaah. I know now that I have to be content with what Allaah has decreed for me, and at the same time I must take precautions and seek the right causes that will lead to my desired purpose. Ustadh: Allaah reminds us in the Quraan:
"O mankind! Remember, Allahs grace toward you! Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the sky and the earth? There is no God save Him. Why then are you deceiving yourselves?" (Q35: 3)
So as you reflect on our lessons so far, at home, make sure you remember Allaah in everything you do and show your gratitude by obeying His commands. May we all be listed amongst His righteous servants.
Talib: Amin. Jazakumullaah khayran, I cant wait for our next class .. (Dear Reader, Can you wait?)
