Al-Tufail ibn Amru (from the clan of Dus) accepted Islam and when he did. he said. Oh Prophet of Allaah. I am a man who is obeyed by my people so I will go back to them and call them to Islam. Oh Prophet, Ask AlIaah to grant me a miracle that will help me to do so. The Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said. Oh Allaah, grant him a miracle. He said: So i went back to my people. When I was almost there. A light glowed like a torch between my eyes. I then said. Oh Allaah not on my face lest I fear they might think that it is a curse. The light then appeared on my head.
As I approached my people, they all gathered around me and my father came to me and I told him that I am a Muslim and that I am a follower of Muhammad. My father said, Oh my son. your religion is mine. I said to him: Go wash your body and clothes and then Ill teach you what I was taught. My father then became a Muslim. My wife and my whole family also became Muslim My people refused to accept Islam. so I went back to the Prophet and he said, "Oh Allaaah guide the people of Dus, go back to them and call them to Islam. Be gentle and courteous with them." (Ibn Ishaaq)
virtues of Ramadan: Its a means of attaining piety, Allaah says: "Oh you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become pious" (Q2: I83)
Past sins are forgiven: Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever establishes prayers during the night Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allahs rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven. " (Bukhari)
The Devils are chained: Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said. "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained. "(Bukhari)
A night better than a thousand months: Anas told of Allahs Messengers (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saying when Ramadan began that. "This month has come to you, and it contains a night which is better than a thousand months. He who is deprived of it is deprived of all good, but only those who are denied prosperity are deprived of it.. (Tirmidhi)
Umra in Ramadan gives the reward of Hajj: "Perform Umra when Ramadan comes,for umra In Ramadan IS equal to Hajj (in reward) " (Bukhari) It protects from sins and the Fire. Allahs Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, Allaah said, All the deeds of Adams Sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for me, and I will give the reward for it. Fasting is a shield for protection from the fire and from committing sins (Bukhari).
