Allaah says, "Certainly no one despairs of AIlaahs Mercy, except the people who disbelieve" [Q 12:87]. Allaah also says concerning prophet Ibraheem [peace be upon him], "Do you give me glad things [of a son] when old age has overtaken me? Of what then is your news?" They [the angels] said: "We give you glad tidings in truth. So be not of the despairing." [lbraheemJ said: "And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray"[Q 15: 54-56]
Narrated Abu Huraira; I heard Allaah's Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] saying, "Verily Allaah created Mercy. The day He created it, He made it into one hundred parts. He withheld with Him ninety-nine parts, and sent its one part to all His creatures. Had the non-believer known of all the Mercy which is in the Hands of Allah, he would not lose hope of entering Paradise, and had the believer known of all the punishment which is present with Allah, he would not consider himself safe from the Hell-Fire. " [Bukhari]
Also, Abu Hurayrah narrated that Allaah's Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allaah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, (but) cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allaah and do not lose heart, and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, dont say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allaah did that what He had ordained to do and your "if" opens the (gate for the Shaytan) [Muslim]
From the above verses of the Quran and ahadeeth of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], we can see that it is forbidden for a Muslim for to despair or lose hope of the Mercy of Allaah.
We should always have hope and think good of Allaah and never lose hope. If things are difficult for a. person today, it does not mean that Allaah can not turn things around for the person and make his situation better. Therefore, as Muslims, we must not Jose hope rather, we should continue to strive hard and pray to Him to better our situation.
