Commiting Injustice and oppression

Allaah makes being just one of the things that we Muslims must observe. The opposite i.e. injustice is hated by Allaah and therefore He forbids it for us. What is justice? The Arabic word for justice is known as Adl. It is defined as the fair treatment of people and acting equitably amongst them without discrimination. It is the absence of oppression and unfairness and it is to act or do things according to what is right and proper. Allaah says;

"O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do." [Quran, 4:135].

In another verse, He says;

"O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of -others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to Piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do. "[Quran, 5:8]

It is Haram for Allaah!

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said Allaah said; "O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another". [Qudsi]

The greatest form of injustice

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas [RA]: When the following Verse was revealed: "It is those who believe and confuse not their belief with wrong (worshipping others besides Allaah.)" (Q6:83),

the companions of Allaah's Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] asked:

"Who amongst us who had not done injustice (wrong)?" Allaah revealed: "Verily, joining others in worship with Allaah is a great injustice (wrong) indeed. "(Q31 :13)

Darkness on the Day of Judgement

Narrated Ibn Umar, "The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said:

"Oppression will be a darkness on the Day of Resurrection." [Bukhari]

"On that Day ... " Narrated Abu Huraira Allaah's Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said:

"Whoever has oppressed another person concerning his reputation or anything else, he should beg him to forgive him before the Day of Resurrection when there will be no money (to compensate for wrong deeds), but if he has good deeds, those good deeds will be taken from him according to his oppression which he has done, and if he has no good deeds, the sins the oppressed person will be loaded on him."[Bukhari]

It rebounds on him

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said;

"A commander [of the Muslims] is a shield for them. They fight behind him and they are protected by [him from tyrants and aggressors]. If he enjoins fear of AIlaah, the Exalted and Glorious, and dispenses justice, there will be a [great] reward from him; and if he enjoins otherwise, it rebounds on him. "[Muslim]
