Do you ever wonder why evil is so widespread nowadays? Has it ever occurred to you that you may have contributed to the spread of evil? You are probably wondering what this is all about, since you do not see yourself committing any of these major sins: no shirk, no boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, no smoking, no drinking of alcohol etc, etc. Really?! Then look around you, yes look at that poster of the footballer or musician in your room! And those your T-Shirt with all sorts of images and all sort of phrases? Even the masjid is not safe from the invasion of pictures. You go for salaah and the man next to you is wearing a T-shirt bearing the picture of guess who, Michael Jordan or people of his like.
Some even try to give it the flavour of Islaam by putting the picture of their shaykh on the walls, and some have small images attached to necklaces they are wearing. Are you not aware of the evil effects of all these pictures around us? The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The angels do not enter a house where there are pictures." (Bukhaaree). Let us consider the story behind this statement of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Narrated Aisha: Jibril (peace be upon him) made a promise with Allaahs Messenger (peace and blessings be Upon him) to come at a definite hour; that hour came but he didnot visit him. And there was in I his hand (in the hand of Allahs Messenger) a staff. He threw it from his hand and said: "Never has Allaah or His Messengers (angels) ever broken their promise." Then he cast a glance (and by chance) found a puppy under his cot and said: "Aisha, when did this dog enter here?" She said: By Allaah, I dont know.
He then commanded and it was turned out. Then Jibril came and Allahs Messenger (peace be upon him) said to him: "You promised me and I waited for you, but you did not come", whereupon he said: "It was the dog in your house which prevented me (to come). for we (angels) do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture." (Bukhaaree)
Remember that the dog was there without the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) being aware of it: Yet Angel Jibril (peace be upon him) would not enter the house because of its presence! The same is true for the presence of pictures. Just think of how much harm we have inflicted on others and ourselves. If the angels would not enter the house of the Messenger of Allaah even for something he was not aware of, how much more for lesser mortals like ourselves when we now do it deliberately? Of course if angels wont enter, some other beings would. The Jinns would probably have a field day.
Then they would beautify evil for us; little wonder our sense of perceiving evil is dulled everyday. So we find it easier to do evil more than those before us, because of what we have done to our environment with our own hands. Pictures are invading every space available: newspapers, magazines, drivers license, passports, just name it, there must be pictures on it. Even some religious books and magazines are not excluded! Some may argue that our time is different and Allaah would understand.
Typical, but Angel Jibril (peace be upon him) should have understood that the Messenger of Allaah did not know about the dog and therefore overlooked .it. It seems we want Allaah to use different standard for us and yet we desire the same reward. At the rate that we are going, there may come a time that the angels would hardly find a house good enough to enter.
Not with the dogs and images allover the f place. May that day never come! Now dont think that the I recording angels would not enter your house so that what you are doing, particularly of evil, will not be recorded. No, it is the angels of mercy that do not enter. As for , I recording angels, they are always by your side ready to record whatever you do.
