While I was younger, I was told that the stars have connection with the life of every Individual.
I was fed with a fabricated talk that each star we see determines each person's fortune so the more one's star scintillates, the wealthier he becomes. Also once a person dies, his star falls.
As a result, I used to beseech Allah to make my star shine always and each time a star fell, I used to say takbeer and follow it up with Inna lillahi wainnaa ilayhi roji'oon (To Allah we belong and to him, we shall return).
I later discovered that this talk is bogus. In fact, having such belief (in Islam) is tantamount to disbelief.
This is because no single verse of the Quran nor any hadith of the prophet affirms this. Indeed, Allah only created stars to serve as lamps and guards against shaytan.
He says; 'And certainly We have adorned this lower heaven with lamps and We have made these missiles for the Shaitans, and We have prepared for them the chastisement of burning'.
(Suratul Mulk verse 5)
Also, to make everyone understand the stand of Islam on the Issues regarding stars, our pious predecessors were reported to have said;
Ibn Sīreen Raḥimahullāh narrated: “Abū Qatādah al-Anṣāri (may Allah be pleased with him) came down upon us when a star fell so we followed (the shooting star) with our gaze, and we were forbidden to do that (by him).”
(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 26631)
Also, Ibn Mufliḥ (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “And as for the actions of disbelievers and from resembling them is when one closes his eyes upon the shooting of star and makes a wish in his heart, this is baseless rather it is Kufr (disbelief) for that (action) originates from the belief that the existence of stars affects the Qadr (decree) of a person and that the star holds the knowledge of what is in the heart of the one wishing upon it so reflect for this (belief upon stars) is heresy..” (abridged)
Now brethren, don't you think it's high time we stopped hallucinating by distancing ourselves from these baseless beliefs?
May Allah grant us sound understanding of His deen.
