Every Illness has a cure : Dates

Imagine a woman who is in labour; imagine the pain that she goes through and imagine the energy that she puts into it So Imagine Maryam, mother of Prophet Eesaa, all alone as she was going through the pain of childbirth, She said: "Would that I had died before this, and that I had been forgotten and out of sight " Then she heard a voice a voice as Allaah says:

"And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripedates upon you. So eat and drink and be glad ... " (Maryam [19]: 25-26)

So the dates were to give her the strength for the task and she brought forth the baby.

What are dates?

Dates are fruits derived from the date-palm tree, Allaah says:

"And tall date-palms, with ranged clusters; A provision for Allaah's slaves." (Qaf [50]: 10-11),

Also the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) compared this tree to the true believer.

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (RA): "Once Allaah's Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him) said, "Amongst the trees there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim, tell me the name of that tree.

" Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas and I thought of the date palm tree but felt shy to answer. The others asked, "O Allaah's Messenger! Inform us of it" He (peace and blessing be upon him) replied, "it is the date-palm tree," (Bukhari)

 Types of dates

Dates are eaten fresh, dried, ripe and unripe and are both a type of food and cure, They are nutritious, and sweet It is a fruit but could be taken as a drink, Aisha (RA) related that the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:

"Eat fresh and dried dates, because shaytaan gets sad when he sees the son of Aadam eating them, so he said: the son of Aadam has lived until (now) he eats the fresh and the old together." (Ibn Majah)

Dried dates

Dried dates are called 'tamr' in Arabic, They strengthen the liver, relax the bowels and relieve sore throat and increase semen production, They are among the most nutritious type of fruits and are good de-worming agents or at least decrease their numbers especially when it is taken frequently on an empty stomach.

Ripe dates

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) preferred this type of date in breaking his fast This is a wise decision because fasting empties the stomach of food, Sweets are the fastest food to reach the liver and are also favoured by the liver. When one eats ripe dates, the liver accepts it even more readily, benefits from it and then transfers the benefits to the rest of the body organs.

In the absence of ripe dates, he would use dried dates, Otherwise, some sips of water would do, Anas bin Malik (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) used to break his fast on some ripe dates, and if he did not have any, he would break with dry dates, Otherwise, if he did not have dry dates, he would have several sips of water," (Abu Dawood)
