Faatimah (RA) was the fifth child of, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) and his, blessed wife Khadeejah. She was born at a time when her noble father had begun to go for his seclusions in the mountains around Makkah, meditating and reflecting on the mysteries of creation.
As a young girl nearing maturity, she believed in her father's mission and always supported him during the harsh years of persecution in Makkah. Indeed, she was very firm.
One of the foremost companions of her father, Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) narrated that:
"Once the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) was offering prayers at the Ka'bah, Abu Jahl was sitting with some of his companions. One of them said to the others, "Who amongst you will bring the abdominal contents (intestines, etc.) and put it on the back of Muhammad, when he prostrates?" The most unfortunate of them got up and brought it He waited till the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) prostrated and then placed it on his back between his shoulders.
I was watching but could not do any thing, I wished I had some people with me to hold out against them, They started laughing and falling on one another. Allaah's Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him) was in prostration and he did not lift his head up till Faatimah came and removed those intestines away from his back and invoked evil on whoever had done the evil deed.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) raised his head and said thrice, "O Allaah! Punish Quraish." So it was hard for Abu Jahl and his companions when the Prophet invoked Allaah against them as they had a conviction that the prayers and invocations were accepted in this city (Makkah). The Prophet said:
"O Allaah! Punish Abu Jahl, 'Utba bin Rabi'a, Shaiba bin Rabi'a, AI-Walid bin 'Utba, Umaiya bin Khalaf, and 'Uqba bin AI Mu'it (and he mentioned the seventh whose name I cannot recall). By Allaah in Whose Hands my life is, I saw the dead bodies of those persons who were counted by Allaah's Messenger in one of the wells of Badr." (Bukhari)
She was married to Alee bin Abi Taalib (RA) though Abu Bakr (RA) and Umar (RA) had sought her hand in marriage. Buraydah bin al-Hasib (RA) narrated that Abu Bakr and Umar asked for Faatimah's hand in marriage, but Allaah's Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him) said, "She is young," Then Alee asked for her hand in marriage and he married her to him(Tirmidhi)
Faatimah was the youngest of the daughters of the Prophet and the most beloved to him, Like her mother Khadeejah, 'she is also regarded as one; of the best of women that attained perfection.
Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA): "The Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
"Among the women of the universe, Maryam, daughter of Imran, Khadijah, daughter of Khuwaylid, Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad, and Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh are enough for you, "(Tirmidhi)
In addition, she will be one of the leaders of the women of paradise, Narrated Umm Salamah (RA): "In the year of the Conquest, Allaah's Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him) called Faatimah and spoke privately to her and she wept; he then spoke to her and she laughed, When Allaah's Messenger died she asked her about her weeping and her laughing and she replied, "Allaah's
Messenger informed me that he was going to die, so I wept; he then informed me that, with the exception of Maryam, daughter of Imraan, I should be the chief lady among the Inhabitants of Paradise, so I laughed." (Tirmidhi)
From the posterity of Faatimah (RA) will arise the Mahdi,- one of the signs of the last hour. He will be the Imaam who will lead the faithful believers towards the end of time, Umm Salamah (RA), one of the mother of the believers narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
"The Mahdi will be of my family, of the descendants of Faatimah. (Abu Dawood)
She was the only child that survived her father, However, she died six months after the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing be upon him) had left the world. May Allaah have mercy upon her. (Amin)
