At one time or the other in our lives, most of us would have come in close contact with at least one pregnant woman probably our mothers, sisters, aunties or other close relatives. But how many of us have had the heart-stopping opportunity of touching their bellies and feeling the baby kick from within? Not so many, I guess!
For those who have experienced it, especially for the first time, it could be an eye-popping and breath-taking event that fills one with pure wonder at the glory of Allaah. The stay of a foetus (unborn baby) in the womb is no doubt a testimony to one of the many favours of Allaah which brings so many thoughts to the mind. Firstly, Allaah in His infinite mercy and power created us from the mingling of the male sperm and the female ovum. Allaah says:
"And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth). Thereafter, We made him (the offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah (mixed drops of the male and female discharge) and lodged it in a safe lodging (womb of a woman)."(Q23:12-13)
Secondly, Allaah provides for the baby in the womb. While we are concerned about feeding, sustenance and accommodation, the baby feeds by Allaah's mercy through the placenta which sends food from the mother to the baby. Free and safe accommodation is also provided in the womb where the baby is protected.
Thirdly, it is a wonder that babies stay in such a small place for 9 months and do not get restless or bored. I wonder how many of us can spend 2 hours in a cramped place withnut feeling uncomfortable. Accepted that we have all passed through the phase of being babies but it still beats the imagination!
The growth of babies after they are born is another of Allaah's favours. Little babies who mostly do not weigh more than 5 kilograms at birth grow with time to become adults who are fat, slim, tall or short. It is such a wonder that every adult was once a baby!
Allaah not only created us, He also bestowed on us the ability to see and hear. Allaah says:
"But He has fashioned him (man) in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit. And He gave you (the faculties of) hearing and sight and feeling (and understanding).Little thanks do you give."(Q 32:9)
Allaah has also given us the ability to reason, to differentiate the good from the bad and has given us Islam as a religion and commands us to wars. Him always in our thoughts and deeds so that we can be among the people of AI-Jannah (Paradise). All these are favours from Allaah for which we must always be thankful. Always give thanks to Allaah for His mercies.
Be conscious of the fact that everything that happens at every time is a sign from Allaah for only those who can reflect. Stay away from misdeeds to avoid Allaah's punishment. Allaah says:
"Does man think that he will be left neglected without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (AIlaah) on him? Was he (man) not a female discharge of semen) poured forth? Then he became an 'Alaqah' (a clot); then AIlaah shaped and fashioned him in due proportion. And made him in two sexes, male and female."(Q75:36-39)
So the next time you see a pregnant woman or even feel the kicking of a baby, don't forget to say
"Alhamdulilah Robil Alamin(All praises and thanks be to AIlaah, the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinns and aIl that exists) (Soorah AI Fatihah 1:2).
"And which is it of the favours of your Lord that deny?" (Qur'an 55)
