Love for the Companions (RA) is part of the belief of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah as is established in the Quraan and authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We must love them, honor them and follow their ways.
The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) .are those who witnessed the Messengership of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), met him, believed in him and died upon Islam. They include. Those who heed the call of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) right from the beginning and persevered with him such as, Abubakr as-Siddeeq (RA), Uthmaan bn Affaan (RA), Ali bn abi Talib (RA) amongst others, and finally migrated with him to Madeenah.
Encomiums on them: About them Allaah says, "And the first to embrace Islam of then Muhaajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to AI-Madeenah) and the Ansaar (the citizens of AIMadeenah who helped and gave aid to the Muhaajiroon) and also those who followed them exactly in Faith.
Allaah is well- leased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success." (Q9 : 100). Allaah also says, "...So those who emigrated and were driven out from their homes, and suffered harm in My Cause, and who fought, and were killed (in My Cause), verily, I will remit from them their evil deeds and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise); a reward from Allaah, and with Allaah is the best of rewards. "(Q3: 195). Allaah also says, "Not equal among you are those who spent and fought before the conquering (of Makkah) (with those among you who did so later). Such are higher in degree than those who spent and fought afterwards. But to all, Allaah has promised the best (reward). And Allaah is All-Aware of what you do." (Q 57: 10).
The Prophet said, "Do not abuse my companions for if anyone of you spent gold equal to Uhud (in Allaahs Cause) it would not be equal to a Mud or even a half Mud spent by one of them. (Bukhaari) For them (the Companions), they combine the virtues of help (nusrah) and migration (hijrah) and are Generally referred to as Muhaajiroon (Those who migrated from Makkah to Madinah). They were the first set of people to accept the religion and also persevered the persecution of the disbelievers in Makkah.
For the Ansaar (The helpers), they have the virtue helping the establishment of Allaahs deen after the migration (May Allaah be pleased with them). They accepted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who migrated from Makkah with him, and also gave them support when the enemies of the religion were seriously persecuting them. Insha AIIaah we shall be rounding up on this topic in the next edition.
