Last edition we started with the story of Yajooj and Majooj, the pious man; Dhul Qarnayn and the people of a township who sought, his help against them. This edition, we continue from where we stopped and look at some other information about these people and how exactly they will emerge. Allaah tells us that the barrier built by Dhul-Qarnayn is preventing Yajooj and Majooj from emerging:
[So they [Yajooj and Majooj people could not scale it or dig through it.] [Q 18: 97].
He says that this will continue until the end of time, when Allaah will grant them the permission to emerge. At this time, the barrier which is preventing them will be destroyed and they will emerge to mankind:
[ ... but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true.][Q 18: 89].
When that happens, they will come out in hordes, like the waves of the sea:
[And on that day [i.e. the day Yajooj and Majooj will come out], we shall leave them to surge like waves on one another ...] [Q 18: 99]
This will be close to the onset of the final Hour and the blowing of the Trumpet
[... and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them [the creatures] all together.] [Q 18:99]
Elsewhere, Allaah tells us how they will emerge from where they are right now. Allaah says;
until, they [Yajooj and Majoo] are let loose [from their barrier, and they swoop down from every mound. And the promise [Day of Resurrection] shall draw near [of fulfillment]. Then [when mankind is resurrected from their Graves], you shall see the eyes of the disbelievers fixedly starring in horror. [they will say] Woe to us! ...[Q 21: 96-97]
This event will occur at the end of time. The phrase and they swoop down from every mound, means they will hasten to spread corruption in the earth. A mound is a raised portion of land. This is how they will be when they emerge. The Prophet of Allaah [peace and blessings be upon him] gave us description of their emergence. He said that a small hole had opened in the barrier of Yajooj and Majooj during his time, a hole-like circle made with the thumb and forefinger. In a narration in Bukhari, Zaynab bint Jahsh (RA) said that the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] visited her in an agitated state and said, Laa ilaaha illallah! Woe to the Arabs for an evil that has approached! A hole like this has opened in the barrier of Yajooj and Majooj, and he made a circle with his thumb and fore finger. Zaynab said: I said, O Messenger of Allaah, will we be destroyed even if there are righteous people among us? He said, Yes, if evil is widespread. "
