The Companions of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] are the people who lived at his time, assisted him and believed in him in his life time and after his death and died upon his teachings. There were many of them and all of them are honourable people in the sight of Allaah. The most prominent of them is Abubakr as- Sideeq [RA] who was the first male adult to accept Islam. Umar bn Khattab [RA] is next, then Uthman bn Affan, then Aliy bn Abi Taalib.
GeneralIy all of them are the best set of peop1e after the Prophets and Messengers of AIlaah. Loving them and respecting them is compulsory on the Muslim and we are not allowed to have ill-feelings towards them Allah says concerning the Companions [May Allah be pleased with them all] of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him];
"And the foremost to embrace of the Muhajirun ( those who migrated from Makkah to 'AI-Madinah] And the Ansar [the citizens 0f Al-Madinah Who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun] and also who followed them exactly [in Faith]. Allaah is well pleased with them as they are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them gardens under which rivers flow [Paradise], to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success [Q9:100]

Narrated Abu Said, The Prophet said:
"Do not abuse my companions for if anyone of you spent gold equal to Uhud (in AIlaah's Cause) it would not be equal to a mudd or even a half mudd spent by one of them. "[Bukhari]
