Imaam Aboo Haneefah 80 A.H 150 A.H
His Lineage: He is al-Imaam Aboo Haneefah. His name is an-Numan bin Thaabit at-Taimiyn,faqeeh (the legal jurist) . of Iraq, one of the Imaams of Islaam, a well known master, one of the pillars among the scholars and. he is one of the four Imaams that has a madhab (school of jurisprudence) ascribed to them. He was born in 80 AH in.Kufah and he grew up there. His family came to Iraq from Afghanistan. He is a tabiun (someone who met the Companions of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing of Allaah be upon him)) and he saw Anas ibn Maalik (RA). Some have stated that he narrated from seven Companions. And Allaah knows best.
His early studies: He started his studies in philosophy and scholastic theology. After mastering those fields, he decided to give them up and concentrate on fiqh (legal judgements in Islaam). His worship He used to pray at night reciting the Quran and crying a lot. He finished the recitation of the Quran several thousand times during his life. What the scholars say about him Abdullaah ibn Mubarak said, "If not that Allaah assisted me with Aboo Haneefah and Sufyan at- Thawree, I would be like other people of Iraq, one of the Imaams of Yahya ibn Maeen said: "He is reliable. He is among the truthful ones, no one suspect him as a liar". Imam Shaafi said, "Whoever wants to learn fiqh has to depend on Aboo Haneefah, and whoever wants to learn biography would be dependent on Muhammad ibn Ishaaq, and whoever wants to learn hadith has to depend on Imaam Malik and whoever wants to learn Tafsir would depend on Muqasteel bin Sulayman". Both Sufyan at-Thawree and Ibn Mubarak said, "Aboo Haneefah is the best faqeeh on earth during his time". Mugheeth Ibn Badeel said, Aboo Haneefah was called by al- Mansoor to the judiciary, so he refused.
So he (al-Mansoor) said, Do you desire that which we have? So he said, "No, I am not appropriate". Then al-Manso or said, You have lied. He said, "So the Leader of the Believers has ruled that I am not appropriate. Since I am a liar, then I am not appropriate. And in was truthful, I would have informed you that I was not appropriate."
His students: His most important students include Muhammad ibn al- Hassan al-Shaibaani, Aboo Yoosuf, al-Hassan ibn Ziyad al- Lului and Zufar ibn Hudhayl. Some Hanafi Texts Kitab al-Kharaj: by Abu Yusuf.
A treatise on taxation and constitutional questions. Al-Hidaya: by al-Marghinani one of the most important texts outlining the Hanafi school. Followers of the Hanafee Madbbab The Hanafi school of fiqh currently has the largest followership of the four major school of fiqh and they are mostly found in Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Trinidad, Surinam etc.
His death: He died in Rajab 150 AH at the age of 70. His salat al-janazah was observed in Baghdad six times because of the crowd and he was buried there. May Allaah have mercy on him.
